‘The Service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room on earth’ - very well said because ‘Happiness for Free’ is the motto for ‘Hamara Sahaas’, an NGO that is open to all castes and works for Women Empowerment. It has given support and hope to many who are married and due to some reasons could not work or study further on
23rd January 2017, a group of RKKians got a chance to visit this ground rooted NGO run by Mrs Tamanna Bhati. A warm welcome followed by attending their two programs, ‘Goonj’ and ‘Sakhi’ were highly sensitizing. Sakhi, an innovative programme, is about making cheap and affordable sanitary Napkins. This programme has provisions which ensure that the poorest of the poor receive this facility through the Hygiene Bucket Challenge under which anyone who can afford to buy them can volunteer and distribute them among the poor. Also to keep the prices low they do not supply their products to the market. The NGO is equipped with all the necessary machines required for the production. Care of proper hygiene is taken. Under “Goonj” girls are taught traditional arts. They are given vocational training of stitching. To add a tinge of happiness and joy to their lives, RKKians painted the walls of the NGO. Stuffed toys, Keychains and Mehandi designs in the traditional ways were learnt by them. Spending four hours made them good friends. All promised to meet again and again.
