COMMUNITY SERVICE

More than two decades into the 21st century, despite of herculean individual efforts, the position of women in our social setup hasn’t changed much. The sword of women empowerment can only be forged through the incorrigible metal of education because Education is Empowerment. Enlightened souls have an uncanny knack of seeing the future before it arrives. Her Highness Rajmata Sahiba being an enlightened soul realised, very early the power of education in empowering women. With this objective in mind, she conceptualised and laid the foundation of RKK, which has now become the nursery forging empowered women and is catering not only to Rajasthan but also to students from all over. Following her footsteps, Yuvrani Gayatri Rajye Sahiba ventured Project Shakti & Project Prayaas - Service endeavours in collaboration with Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls' Public School, Jodhpur under the aegis of His Highness Maharaja Hanwant Singhji Charitable Trust that carries out a series of modest initiatives under its outgoing projects – Shiksha, Sahayata and Sahayog to empower and uplift the women belonging to the rural and marginalized section of Marwar.

RKK is an institution whose boundaries exist merely in its geography not in its mind or spirit. However, it is difficult to capsule RKK’s vision and mission in few lines but raising awareness and uplifting the marginalized women of remote areas is its important goal. For this aim, RKK decided to collaborate and join hands with Yuvrani Sahiba’s Project Shakti and took an initiative to collaborate with this project and ventured “Prayaas” - an effort, inspired by Service endeavours of Round Square that aims at Women Empowerment. After long discussions with Yuvrani Sahiba and motivated by the change maker, visionary like Mrs Nishi Mishra, Principal, Scindia Kanya Vidayala, Gwalior whose project ‘Sankalp’ is in progress from last so many years, SKV’s Principal was invited to RKK who gave a complete demonstration of their project. Officials from Rajmata School were sent to SKV, Gwalior to get a first-hand knowledge of operating these machines and know how about the way this program needs to be implemented. The machines were procured from a renowned dealer at Coimbatore. On 3rd April 2019, this project was inaugurated at His Highness Maharaja Hanwant Singhji Charitable Trust, 10, Hanwant Vihar, Rai-Ka-Bagh Jodhpur. It is the fruition of a dream, a tribute to a great visionary whose hallowed name the school bears. This signified a fresh start of a magnificent endeavour of ‘Hamara Prayaas’ that manufactures and distributes free Sanitary Napkins and engages women in employment providing them of Financial independence and abilities to respond to challenges, to confront their traditional role and change their life. Along with this, a team of 13 RKKians present and perform a street play appealing and encouraging the women to forego superstitions and adopt a cleaner, healthier way related to their menstrual cycle.

PROJECT PRAYAAS

A team of RKKians, under the mentorship of Dean Activities are trained in manufacturing of Sanitary Napkins under the aegis of Project Prayaas. These students devote one hour everyday for this community service. A group of marginalized rural widows in production of this essential commodity have been trained. The Sanitary Napkins manufactured by students and marginalized women are then distributed free of cost in nearby villages and schools to poor and needy girls and women. A team of girls perform a Street Play (Nukkad Natak) educating and encouraging the rural women to forego superstitions and adopt a clean and healthy way for their menstrual cycle.

PROJECT SHAKTI

Another team of skilled students work for Project Shakti i.e. training of rural women in handcrafted toys beautifully designed by Yuvrani Gayatri Rajye Sahiba. These students have trained the unskilled rural women in making beautiful soft toys, keychains and puppets so that they can learn and earn both. The sale generated from these toys support the underprivileged, impoverished, poor women who manufacture Sanitary Napkins and their families have barely enough to survive and fight each day for basic requirement.
