MATHS MATRIX COMPETITION

The Mathematics Fun Race Competition “Maths Matrix” was organized to foster interest and enthusiasm in Mathematics among students. The competition was aimed at making Mathematics enjoyable and engaging through a series of interactive challenges and activities.

Students of class I participated in the competition. Teams were formed, each comprising enthusiastic students eager to showcase their mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities. Each section of Class I was divided into six groups of 5 / 6 children each. There were five rounds of questions.

1.     Odd/Even: Six cut outs of T-shirts cut-outs were hung on a rope for the groups. The questions were written on the cutouts of frocks. Children needed to identify the odd / even numbers and hang them with pins on the correct side of the T-shirt.  Only once they finished the first round, they could move to the next round. This fostered teamwork and quick thinking under pressure.

2.     Shapes: Four basic shaped pictures were pasted inside paper bowls. The pictures were shown to the children for 15 seconds and then flipped back and shuffled. The children had to pick two bowls at the same time to make a pair of correct shapes. Once all the 4 pairs of correct pictures were made, the group could move to the next round.

3.     Addition Pyramid: Numbers were written on the paper cups. First 4 cups were arranged. They had to add the adjacent numbers and sum them up. In the same way, they had to complete the pyramid.

4.     Lock and Key Multiplication: Questions were written on the locks (dodging tables) and answers were written on the keys. Children had to match the correct key (answer) with the correct lock.

5.     Picture puzzle: Questions were written behind the picture puzzle. Children had to answer each question and flip the piece of the puzzle. When all the pieces were flipped, they had to assemble them to make a correct picture.

The Mathematic Fun Race Competition, “Maths Matrix” was a resounding success, inspiring students to view Mathematics as not just a subject but also an exciting adventure.
