ST JOHN’S RAVENSCOURT (RS ZOOM POSTCARD)

" Benevolence awes even those it cannot win"

What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation. We human beings running in the maze of life filled with challenges and our libido to succeed in every aspect of life makes us ignorant of our mental health which includes cognitive, emotional and social well-being.  Although there has been a clarion of mental and emotional health in these uncertain times but still stigma around mental illness and seeking help  especially during the age of adolescence remains.  To deliberate upon burgeoning importance and connection of mental health , happiness and service, St John’s Ravenscourt School, Winnipeg, Canada hosted a Round Square Postcard on 9th June 2021,  which was indeed enriching and insightful.

The students from all around the world participated and contributed to the discussion by sharing vivid perspectives and experiences. The discussion revolved around "how acts of service to others can give us helper’s high and contribute to our happiness?". Fun facts like treating others or donating can make us more content and satisfied and  socializing gives more comfort than solitude were also revealed. Some participants added that mental well-being doesn’t only lie in your highs but also in the way you hold your lows and maintain equilibrium  and to take care of others we need to first take care of ourselves. Baraza sessions were packed with never ending discussions on questions like - Did you ever feel  helper’s high ,when and how? Is mental health discussed in your schools and surroundings ?  Lauren, Bhavi Kumbhat , Yashna Parashar , Diya Rathore, Kirti Kanwar Bhati and their teacher incharge, Ms Aashna Jain from RKKGPS participated with full zeal and enthusiasm and brought back a bag full of knowledge.
