WGS - FIRGUN FEST - POETRONICA & MERAKI FEST – VISUAL ARTS FEST


Language provides a medium to communicate and connect. But, today in these testing times of COVID 19 we need to connect in ways in which we can make an impact and difference to the world around us. We all are aware that poetry flows from the heart, so to transport words to another realm which is joyous and magical, Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun had organised a Poetry Writing, Painting, Photography and Digital Art Competitions.  

To celebrate this spirit of creativity, Welham Girls' School invited all the Round Square Schools to participate in the Firgun Fest - Poetronica & Meraki Fest – Visual Arts Fest.

FIRGUN FEST - POETRONICA

Poetry pieces were presented in four different languages in the Poetronica format (poetry in video form).  Poetry was invited in English, Hindi, French and Spanish languages from grade 9 to 12 students. POETRONICA was to be of 2-3 minutes, inclusive of the introduction. Theme was given in all the four languages to the students to express their thoughts and thereafter present it in the form of video by 15th July 2020.

English (Theme-Renewal) : Antra Tripathi (XII), Harshita Haryal (IX) and Nikita Vijayan (IX).

Hindi (Theme- Jeevan Nahi Rukh Sakta) : Mansi Agarwal (XII), Kanishka Sharan (XI) and Paridhi Jain (XI).

Spanish (Theme-“EL nino en la calle” (The boy on the street) : Swati Punjabi (X), Manya Mehta (X) and Niharika Pamnani (IX).

French - Theme- Retrouvailles (Reunion) : Mannat Mehta (X), Mumal Deora (X) and Bhavya Laddha (X).

MERAKI ‘Visual Art Fest’ (Theme : Glimpse of Wonderful Experience) :   

Painting - Jyoti Rathore (XII), Rimjhim Gehlot (XII), Ritu Lakhera (XII) and Yaana Jain (XII).

Photography - Divyanshi Sati (XII), Mansi Agarwal (XII) and Yaana Jain (XII)

Digital Art - Yaana Jain (XII).

This journey taught the students that language is not only responsible for shaping human lives but also taught them how people evolve with necessity and time and thus provide a cultural structure to a nation. The Learning focus of the participants in this contest helped the students enhance their creativity, imagination skills, cultural awareness and to reflect positivity through their work during Pandemic. 

Result : 
Kanishka Sharan & Mansi Agarwal won 1st and 3rd prize respectively in Hindi Poetry Competition.
