RAJMATA GAYATRI DEVI MEMORIAL ENGLISH DEBATE : 2020 (MGD, JAIPUR)


“Talent wins games but team work and hard work wins Championships.”

The First ever Virtual Rajmata Gayatri Devi Memorial English debate under the theme, “I can and I will” was organized by Maharani Gayatri Devi School, Jaipur on August 11, 2020.  Mansi Agarwal of Class XII, Paridhi Jain and Kanishka Sharan of Class XI participated in this one of its kind mega event and brought laurels to RKK by winning the Rajmata Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy.

An ice-breaking session was organised by the host school on August 10, 2020 at 3.00pm so that the participants get familiar with each other and become comfortable with the ‘New Normal’. A list of tentative topics for all the three rounds were given to the participants towards the end of this interesting ice-breaking session. On August 11, 2020 students of RKKGPS and their escort teacher, Ms. Sandhya Mudgal reached the campus of MGD virtually at sharp 9.00 am via their laptops and Google Hangout Meeting. All the participants of eight schools were welcomed virtually by the Principal and organisers of the host school. The Competition started at 9.30am. It consisted of three rounds. The teams were supposed to field three participants in the first and final round. For the second round, only two participants had to speak.

 In the first round, ‘Bang Words’ - each participant was asked to speak for a minute. The topics on which students of RKKGPS had to speak were: ‘Mental health should be given equal importance in academic curriculum’; ‘Home is where the heart is’ and ‘Words of Wisdom’. The students spoke flawlessly. In the second round, Duo-Lingo – Bilingual Turncoat, two students who stole the show were Mansi Agarwal of Class XII  and Paridhi Jain of Class XI. Their topic was ‘Nepotism prevails in Bollywood’. Mansi Agarwal was awarded as the ‘Best Speaker’ in this round. In the final ‘Team Tussle – Parliamentary Round’, RKKGPS fielded Kanishka Sharan as their PM, Mansi Agarwal their Deputy PM and Paridhi Jain was responsible for closing statements/rebuttal. The topic at hand in this round was, ‘Internet is Curbing Creativity.’ Students spoke confidently and the audience as well as the judges were captivated by their convincing and flawless speech. Mansi Agarwal was awarded the ‘Best Speaker’ in Round Three as well.

After four and a half hours of extensive and exhaustive debating, the Competition finally came to its end. With bated breath, everyone waited for the results. While the results were being compiled, the host school took the participants Down the Memory Lane by showing them various video clips, TED-Talks and a brief clip on Maharani Gayatri Devi herself. Finally, as the results were being announced, it was a moment of pride as Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School bagged the first position and won the Maharani Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy.

Someone has rightly said, “All dreams come true if you have the courage to pursue them”.
