SPIC MACAY PERFORMANCE BY GURU MARGI MADHU CHAKYAR

On 1st October 2026, RKKGPS, under the aegis of SPIC MACAY hosted an enriching Koodiyattam performance by renowned artist and scholar Guru Margi Madhu Chakyar accompanied by Smt. Indu G. Nair, Shri Manikandan V. S., Shri Jinesh P. Chakyar, Shri Rajan P. and Shri Sreejith P. S.

The programme introduced students and faculty to Koodiyattam, one of India’s oldest surviving Sanskrit theatre traditions and a UNESCO-recognised Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The session began with an insightful introduction by Smt. Indu G. Nair, who explained the four dimensions of Koodiyattam—Angika, Vachika, Satvika and Aharya—and demonstrated its expressive language through traditional hand gestures and facial expressions. Students enthusiastically participated in learning the basic gestures and enjoyed representations of everyday objects and characters.

The audience was also introduced to traditional instruments such as the Mizhavu and Edakka, followed by an engaging percussion presentation by accomplished musicians.

The highlight of the programme was Guru Margi Madhu Chakyar’s captivating performance, in which he portrayed an evocative forest scene featuring an elephant, python and lion. Through remarkable control of body movements, breath, eyes, expressions and gestures, he brought multiple characters and the atmosphere of the forest vividly to life.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to Guru Madhu Chakyar, Smt. Indu G. Nair and the accompanying artists—Shri Manikandan V. S., Shri Jinesh P. Chakyar, Shri Rajan P. and Shri Sreejith P. S.—for sharing their artistry and knowledge with the school community.

The event was a memorable confluence of tradition, scholarship and interactive learning, inspiring students to appreciate, preserve and celebrate India’s rich intangible cultural heritage.
