AWARENESS SESSION ON DRUG ABUSE

On 7th July 2026, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls' Public School organised an awareness session on Drug Abuse for students of Classes X to XII in the BRS. The session was conducted by Shri Dinesh Tyagi, District Judge, Jodhpur Metropolitan, who sensitised students to the alarming rise of substance abuse among the youth.

Shri Tyagi began by familiarising the students with the stringent laws governing drug abuse and related offences. Addressing the Gen Alpha audience, he cautioned that although smoking and drug use are often portrayed as glamorous, they are among the most destructive habits an individual can develop.

He also highlighted the influence of films and social media, where youngsters are often exposed to celebrities smoking or using tobacco, leading to the misconception that such behaviour is fashionable. Emphasising the danger of experimentation, he remarked that drug abuse often begins with the thought, "It's just the first time," but that first time can eventually become a lifelong addiction.

Explaining the progression of substance abuse, Shri Tyagi stated that addiction frequently begins with tobacco and may gradually lead to more harmful narcotic substances. He elaborated on the severe physical, mental, and social consequences of drug abuse, explaining that it first impairs the brain by reducing focus, concentration, and productivity before affecting every aspect of an individual's personal and social life. He stressed that addiction often becomes a social stigma, with the abuser failing to recognise its far-reaching repercussions.

Concluding the session, Shri Tyagi urged students to remain alert to unusual behavioural changes among their peers, such as secrecy, withdrawal, or sudden changes in conduct. He encouraged them to report such concerns to their parents or teachers so that timely guidance and support could be provided. The informative and thought-provoking session left students with a deeper understanding of the dangers of drug abuse and reinforced the importance of making responsible choices.
