MAYO COLLEGE, AJMER (1ST EDITION OF THE MAYO MODEL G-20 SUMMIT)

On the 19th of January, a delegation comprising - Bhavya Bhati, Bhavi Mehta, Unnati Shekhawat, Dhruvi Mehta and Priyal Jain and their Teacher Escort & Trainer – Ms Jyoti Ratan Singh reached Mayo College Ajmer for the first-ever Model G20 Summit to held on 20th & 21st of January 2024. G20 is where countries assemble to raise issues affecting the world. At Mayo’s G20 Summit, there were five working groups and each group comprised one student of RKK. Unnati Shekhwat was appointed as the Sherpa.

It was an honour to have the Sherpa of India, Mr. Amitambh Kant as the Keynote Speaker. He gave insights into how hard and meticulous is the task of getting each country together in agreement. Even though G20 was founded in 1999, the credit goes to India for bringing it to the headlines and making it a renowned event and one of the most successful events since the Independence. During the Q & A session, Mr. Kant complimented the question put by an RKKian that,  “How digitalisation brought India to the forefront of the world and exposed it to a new Cyber Attacks Threat?”.

The Model G20 was not a competitive but a collaborative event, which made the learning experience even better. The Director of Mayo College, Ajmer, General Kulkarni rightly said, “It’s not about questioning and queries but bringing solutions for everyone to bring everyone together for a better future”.

After diligent effort in 5 working groups with 20 members each and the Sherpas of the countries for day-long sessions, meetings, negotiation and collaboration, the Model G20 proudly formulated the Joint Declaration with complete consensus, from all countries. It gave a global framework for counter-terrorism, climate, migration, global inclusion and finance. The delegates got a well-deserved end of the Summit with a mesmerizing Polo Match and a memorable Gala Dinner.
