VISIT TO SHREE KANAHAIYA GAUSHALA UNDER SERVICE PILLAR OF ROUND SQUARE

“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Mahatama Gandhi

Under the service pillar of Round Square, the students of the 9th class embarked on an educational field trip to the Shree Kanahiya Gaushala, Pal Road Jodhpur on 5th August 2023. The purpose of the visit was to provide the students with practical insights into animal husbandry and to raise awareness about the importance of cattle in our society. The objective of visit was also to engage in a meaningful service activity that aligns with Round Square’s values and principles, promoting community service and a sense of responsibility towards animals.

On arrival, students were warmly welcomed by the staff members and the volunteers. A brief orientation session was conducted, outlining the history and mission of gaushala, as well as the significance of cattle in the local community.

The students were divided into smaller groups and assigned knowledgeable guides who took them on a comprehensive tour of gaushala. They had the privilege of exploring the heaven of diverse medicinal plants with rich historical and healing significance. Later the tour of visiting the cattle started. The guides explained the different breeds of cows housed at the gaushala, emphasising their significance in agriculture, milk production. During the visit, the importance of cows in maintaining a sustainable environment was highlighted. We observed a strong emphasis on sustainable practices such as bio gas production and vermicomposting. The bio gas plant utilised cow dung to generate clean energy. This not only helps in managing wastes but also reduces the environmental impact. Additionally, we noted the effective use of vermicomposting to convert organic waste into nutrient rich compost using earthworms. These practices showcase the gaushala’s commitment to eco-friendly solutions and their efforts to contribute positively to environment.

The visit to the gaushala under the service pillar of RS was a resounding success. This visit provided holistic understanding of animal husbandry, the role of cattle in our society, and the broader environmental implications.
