WORKSHOP BY- MR ANAND KRISHNASWAMY(EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT AND LEADERSHIP COACH)


“An effective education of a child is a collaborative effort of the Parent-Teacher
Community.”
An informative workshop on the various National Education Policy and the National
Curriculum Framework-outlined constructs was organised by the school on 28th and 29th
August 2024. This workshop was specially organised for the parents and teachers of the
Primary section, to help them recognise children’s multiple skills and understand the
record keeping process for their assessment and the making of The Holistic Progress Card.
Mr Anand Krishnaswamy, Educational consultant and leadership coach, gave an insightful
presentation and made the complex nuances of the NEP and NCF, clear and
understandable for everyone.
He apprised the parents and teachers of some key points.
For the Parents:
1. The purpose of Policy Documents
2. Key takeaways from the policy
i. Supporting each level appropriately
ii. Competency based education iii. Holistic education
3. New Pedagogical and Curricular structure - 5+3+3+4
4. The understanding that
i. At the Foundation stage - Flexible, multilevel, play-based learning is the key.
ii. At the Preparatory stage - Discovery and activity-based learning along with some
formal interactive classroom learning is the key.
5. Understanding the various kinds of Cognitive and Socio-emotional skills of a child
6. Understanding the Ecosystems of a child
7. Getting to know a child as a whole
8. Understanding the concept of Progress without any judgements
9. Importance of Annual Planning at Micro level for a smooth handover of a child from
one stage to the next
10.A look at the Holistic Report Card making process
For the Teachers (in addition to the above points) :
1. Implementation of HPC for grades I-V
2. Importance of planning a lesson in a structured manner
3. Understanding the competencies of a child
4. How to assess the disposition of a child
5. Ways and methods of building simple yet effective rubrics for assessment
6. How to design goals and competencies and how to collate learning outcomes under
various competencies
7. The need to clear our biases towards children and reset everyday
8. Understanding the rubrics for creating rubrics
9. Understanding the levels of children as per HPC - Stream, Mountain, Sky/Beginner,
Proficient and Advanced
10.FiToMoMo (First Thing on Monday Morning) Method of planning :
i. Assigning lesson plans for specific observations
ii. Creating rubrics for assessments
iii. Designing learning outcomes into competencies
iv. Designing assessments for competencies
v. Sharing of competencies and assessment rubrics with students and parents. The interactive insights and discussions were highly engaging, providing the parents and
teachers with a profound understanding of the policy's implications for their role in
children's education.
Overall, the workshop was a valuable learning experience for all the participants.
