Students of classes IX to XII attended an interactive session on ‘Adolescent Health Awareness’ conducted by Dr Santosh Khoker and her team on September 26, 2023 in the BRS Auditorium of Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School. The esteemed doctor and her team members were welcomed by Mrs. Seema Baxi, the DEAN Academics, Seniors.
According to WHO, Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood, from ages 10 to 19. It is a unique stage of human development and an important time for laying the foundations of good health.
Celebrating the 9th decade of Umaid hospital and stressing upon the importance of maintaining health and hygiene among adolescents, Dr Santosh Khoker, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, SN Medical College, Jodhpur encouraged girls to speak freely about the physiological changes in their bodies. She said, “This is the healthiest but also the most problematic time for an adolescent”.
Dr Santosh said that adolescents face changes at physical, emotional and mental levels. They can stay fit at all levels by eating healthy, home-cooked food, exercising regularly and drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily. She further said, “Since young people are our future assets, attention to their health is the next logical step”. She informed the adolescents how menstrual hygiene can be maintained.
In the enlightening one-hour session, the learned doctor spoke of pursuing one’s passion. According to Dr. Santosh, youngsters must understand that success is not synonymous to any profession, in fact if one follows their passion, they will stay happy.
The session culminated with an interesting question-answer session in which the youngsters clarified their doubts on topics ranging avoiding mood swings to menstrual hygiene.
