“Poverty and Women’s Rights” was organized by
Thomas More College, South Africa on
17th August 2022. The event started with the introduction of host school and a brief agenda of the event. This was followed by a mesmerizing performance by the host school which included an act spreading awareness about how strong women are. The host school also enlightened the participants about the major problem in South Africa about gender based violence. After this, participants were sent to the Barraza rooms in which many questions were discussed about Gender Based violence - the reason for it being more prevalent in poverty stricken communities, What are women’s rights, How are women’s rights different from human rights and what are the causes of poverty. Apart from discussion, the participants also cross questioned each other to get a better perspective about women’s rights and poverty. After the barraza groups, the Keynote Speaker discussed about the different Sustainable Development Goals, Women as a backbone of economy but an unpaid labourer and Responsibility of women during COVID times. After this the participants discussed all these topics more deeply in the main meeting . The 90-minute call ended with a Vote of Thanks by the host school. All the participants enjoyed sharing knowledge about “Poverty and Women's Rights”.
