A virtual conference was initiated by Round Square which was the first in a series of Round Square Virtual Conferences that will be hosted by RS schools around the world over the first few months of 2021. Chittagong Grammar School (Bangladesh) was the first host of this conference scheduled on 29th January 2021 for a period of three-hours that took place through Zoom app.
The delegation was a set of six students aged 16-18 namely - Suhani Baheti, Sanika Kakkar, Sana Kakkar, Kratika Singhvi, Jaya Sankhla and Khushboo Vyas and school faculty, Ms Subhita Jakhar. There were more than 300 students participating from around the world. The theme of the conference was ‘Climate Action: Now or Never’.
The session started with a thought provoking presentation from the Keynote Speaker - Ms Noemi Marisco, who enlightened the participants on how they can individually as well as a community save the planet, resources and subsequently the environment. This was followed by a riveting Barraza session. It started with a fulfilling introduction followed by several rounds of discussion, covering topics such as indigenous climate problems and social media platforms as a solution to them. This was succeeded by the main plenary where presentations made by Delegate Schools were shared and further discussed. RKK's presence and performance was acknowledged.
An entertaining game of virtual Scavenger Hunt was played at the end of the conference which illuminated the delegates rationally and morally. This invigorating conference infused the young participants with the hope to eliminate the climate crisis as Ernest Hemingway has rightly said "The Earth is a fine place and worth fighting for."
