Cocurricular - Round Square

RSIC 2018 AT CANADA

“What we call the beginning is often the end, and to make an end is to make a beginning”. – T.S. Eliot

Round Square schools share a passion for experiential learning and are characterized by a shared belief in an approach to education based on six pillars known as the IDEALS, drawn from the theory of education philosopher Kurt Hahn. These IDEALS are Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

Students in RKK are encouraged to discover and develop their own capabilities through a range of experiences, activities, collaborative projects and challenges, both within and outside the curriculum, including social service projects, exchanges and conference participation.

Believing in Kurt Hahn’s philosophy that, "There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less", RKK & Round Square together ensure that pupils have every opportunity to achieve in ways and to levels beyond their perceived limits, creating a blueprint for succeeding in all life's challenges.

Each year, students from Round Square Schools come together for a life changing international educational experience. This year too, from 20th September to 5th October 2018. Appleby College, Canada, Ashbury College and Lower Canada College hosted the Round Square International Conference 2018.  There were student & adult delegates from 179 schools of 44 countries. The theme for this Conference was ‘Bring your Difference ’. Five Students, Shubhangi Malani, Lakshya Bohra, Muskan Jethwani, Priyadarshani Newton and Chesta with Round Square Representative, Mrs Sapna Gupta attended this International Conference at Appleby College, Oakville from 29th September to 5th October 2018.

This annual RSIC is the highlight of the year and all member schools participated whole-heartedly to embrace the conference experience. It featured Keynote Speakers like Candy Palmater – Actor, Writer, Comic & Activist, Wade Davis - Prof. of Anthropology, Keynote Musicians - The Arrogant Worms, Rikkas, Regional Meetings, Best Practices Workshops, Adult debrief at Principal’s residence, Slam Poetry Workshop by Ian Keketu,  Muskoka Woods Camp. Multi Culturalism is a fixture of Canadian society, whose diversity is a source of strength. Therefore, each day was themed multicultural day, Indigenous Day, Adventure Day, Service Day & Experience Day with aligned activities for that day. Activities like Maple Syrup Tasting, Blanket Exercise, Waste Water Challenge, Coffee Challenge, Marble Star Challenge, Hansa Challenge, NASCAR Pit Crew Challenge embraced diversity, adventure & service.

It was a seamless experience for the RKK team.
