On the 5th of February 2024, Neerja Modi School, Jaipur held its fourth annual online Union Budget Debate. The debate focused on the interim budget announced by the Finance Minister of India on the 1st of February.
The host school organised an exclusive expert session with Professor Saumil Shah on the 4th of February. Prof Shah, an expert in the field of economics, and a senior lecturer at Amrut Mody School of Management, Ahmedabad University, who interacted with the participants, enlightening them on the impact the interim budget will have on India’s economy. His expertise and knowledge helped the students the next day in preparing their topics.
With bated breath, on 5th Feb, participants waited for their topics. The moment the topics were declared, no one left any stone unturned in their preparation.
Proposition and opposition teams were assigned different breakout rooms to debate on their respective agendas. It was an enriching experience.
RKKGPS team members, Ananya Vikram Singh and Ishita Gumatsa of Class XI presented their viewpoint on the topic, ‘This House supports the government’s decision to increase the Budgetary Allocation for MGNREGA.’ They opposed Sanskriti School, Delhi, who were also the winners of the debate. It was definitely winning in terms of learning.
