“Winning and losing are two sides of the same coin”.A team of 8 girls and 4 escort teachers,
Mrs Sandhya Mudgal, Ms Varsha Pandey, Mr Kuldeep Chand Chouhan & Mr Udhav Kumar Dubey left the portals of RKK on 10th September 2023 to participate in Lady Anusuiya Singhania Memorial All India Debates, 2023. The Hindi debaters spoke for the motion on the topic -Saman Nagrik Sanhita Aaj Ke Aawashyakta Hai’ on the evening of 11th September, 2023. The Chief Guest of the day was Mr RC Joshi, Principal LK Singhania Education Centre, Gotan. He applauded all the debaters and suggested that the participants must not compete with each other but with themselves. Later the students got a wonderful opportunity to mingle with other teams during the DJ night. The participants for the Hindi Debate team were - Jaya Sankhla of Class XII, Divya Vishnoi of Class XII & Sheetal Johari of Class XII.
September 12 witnessed the oratory skills of the English debating teams. The English debaters: Aadyaa Vivek of Class XII, Nikita Vijayan of class XII and Stuti Arya of class XII spoke against the motion, THBT ‘Demand for the caste census in India will ENCOURAGE the concept of divisive thinking’. Students gave their best and spoke fluently. The Chief Guest of the day was Mr Vinay Prabhakar Sahasrabudhhe, president Indian Council for Cultural Relations and former Member of Parliament. According to one of the judges, originality makes a debate unique. This can be obtained by adding personal experiences and reading biographies of great people. No one expects students to debate as parliamentarians. They are expected to share their perspectives on dais.
A good debater must be careful of his body language and posture and his/her attitude should be like a king. Most important point is to be able to think critically. Pinch of passion is to be added to one’s debate. Passion is not synonymous to screaming; in fact, one can stay calm and put his point forward. Debates were followed by a cultural evening where participants exhibited their talents. The performances varied from recitation to singing, dancing and magic show. The quizzers Deeksha Garg and Preksha Mehta reached the Final Round of the Quiz. RKK teams could not win any of the events but won in terms of great learning.
Students may not have won the competition but at the end of the day they enriched their minds by gaining a lot of knowledge and wisdom from their co-debaters, co-participants and judges.
