The Mayoor Invitational Debate, a prestigious event, brought together senior debaters from various schools to engage in intellectual discourse and competition. Hosted by the Mayoor School, Ajmer, this event showcased the eloquence and critical thinking abilities of debaters from across the country.
The competition was held on 01st and 02nd September. The debates were conducted with rigor and decorum, fostering an environment of healthy competition and intellectual exchange. Not only did the event provide a platform for students to showcase their debating skills, it also encouraged them to expand their horizons by researching and presenting well-informed arguments.
Day 1 witnessed three preliminary rounds. For the first prelims, Team RKK comprising Adwitiya Saxena, Dhruvi Mehta and Aarohi Bhattacherjee was against Mayo College Ajmer, and the motion deliberated was ‘TBHT parents should prioritize the interest of their children over their own.’ Team RKK was proposition. While Mayo took the debate, the margin was very close. For the 2nd prelims, team RKK was against Team 1 from the Host school, Mayoor, and the agenda was ‘THR “True Crime” entertainment’. Team RKK was opposition. Although by a close margin, we didn’t win this debate. In the last prelims, Team RKK was against Rajkumar College Rajkot, and the agenda was ‘THBT privileged individuals from minority communities should opt out of affirmative action.’ Team RKK was opposition and won this debate by a wide margin.
Aarohi Bhattacherjee was also adjudged the ‘Best Speaker’ in this round.
The next day witnessed the Quarter finals, the Semi-Finals and the mega Finals. Team RKK made it into the quarter finals and debated on the motion ‘THS the implementation of anti-democratic measures during times of global pandemics’ against the Mayo College, Ajmer. Although a close margin, we lost against Mayo College and couldn’t make it into the Semi-Finals. The Mayoor Invitational Debate for seniors not only celebrated the power of rhetoric but also nurtured the next generation of critical thinkers and communicators, making it a valuable and enriching experience for all schools.
