MAYO COLLEGE, AJMER (27TH PADMASHRI JTM GIBSON, OBE MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL DEBATES AND QUIZ)

“When your hard work looks beyond winning and losing, you are destined to become the winners of life.”

With this enthusiasm, the students of RKK- Manasvi Salecha, Sheetal Johari, Lauren, Amishi Shukla and Jaya Sankhla escorted by Reshma Bhattacharjee Ma’am, reached Ajmer on the morning of 29th September 2022 for participating in the 27th Padmashri JTM Gibson English Invitational Debate and Quiz.

With the spirit to learn and grow, all were ready to face the challenges which were about to come their way.

On the very first day, the preliminary round of the quiz was conducted . Unfortunately the girls could not qualify for the final round but definitely gave a tough competition which was followed by the final round in the evening, curated and conducted by the Quizmaster, Mr. Ajay Puniya.

On the next day, there was  English debates which were conducted by the Awaaz Foundation. The draw of lots for the debates took place first thing in the morning, followed by the three preliminary rounds. RKKGPS was privileged to be paired against few finest schools in the country, namely The Doon School, Welham Girls School and Modern School, Barakhamba Road respectively.  There were heated arguments and valid points and  though Rkk wasn't able to win the rounds, the students learnt and took a lot away for their future debates.

Sheetal Johari won the Best Speaker award in the 2nd preliminary round, against Welham Girls’ School and received a book by Shashi Tharoor and The Best Speaker Certificate.

On the last day, after the semi finals, the RKK team, along with their escort incharge, explored 2-3 places in the city of Ajmer.

The Finals were held between The Doon School and The Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram, presided by the Chief Guest, their very own Ex-HOD English Department and educationist par excellence, Mr. Sanjay Khati. It was a very close and tough debate, which The Doon School, ultimately won. Watching the teams’ debate, followed by judicious inputs from the panel of adjudicators fuelled the RKKians with a lot of intricate details about what all they need to improve and learn. The Finals were then followed by the Director's dinner at his residence where all the students interacted with General Kulkarni and shared their experiences. It was a great learning experience for all.
