Zero Plastic India, in collaboration with Zero Plastic SG, organized Marine Conservation- themed conference called the Marine Conservation Convention. It was systematically organized by
Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai on
25 September 2021. The agenda for the event was - The plastic problem and its impacts on marine life, along with innovations and emerging trends in the field of marine conservation. It was a great pleasure to attend this delightful conference which started with a little interaction by the host school team. Two students Sakshi Lata and Bhavi Kumbhat under the admirable guidance of Teacher Incharge, Mrs Sapna Gupta of Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School attended the event. Students from different parts of the world attended this event with an unbeatable zeal.
The event featured two Keynote Speakers along with workshops on five key concepts related to the plastic problem, its impact on marine life and marine conservation efforts. These include ocean acidification and innovations in reducing plastic waste such as plastic-eating bacteria. The Keynote Speakers were experts in their fields including Melissa Moi, the Head of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) at a major Global Bank as well as Savera Weerasinghe, a Social Entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of Ananta Sustainables. SAVERA WEERASINGHE- Sri Lankan social-entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of Ananta Sustainables was the second Speaker. The audience for this conference were students aged 13-18.
This theme was an initiative by one of the students of the host school to build awareness of the impact of single use plastic on the environment. The host schools had a group of youth who aimed at eliminating plastic consumption and making a positive impact. It was an interesting and knowledgeable topic to discuss liked by all. Everyone in their respective room presented their views about the topic. Students were divided into different breakout rooms. After having a fruitful discussion, all moved back to the main meeting to share their response with everyone. This amusing and entertaining conference ended by discussing impressive information about the importance of reducing the consumption of plastic. The event ended extremely well, keeping everyone in thoughts about the importance of keeping the environment clean and green.
