The Intercultural Exchange Program between Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School, Jodhpur, and The Lawrence School, Lovedale from 10th to 18th August 2024, was a transformative experience that immersed our students in South Indian culture and broadened their worldviews. The program was meticulously planned to ensure active participation in cultural, educational, and recreational activities, offering insights into the rich heritage of the Nilgiris.
The exchange began with a warm welcome on August 11th, where students were introduced to South Indian culture through local cuisine and a captivating performance of the Baduga Dance. They met their buddies and explored the campus, setting the stage for the week ahead.
The following days were filled with enriching experiences. On August 12th, students witnessed a mesmerizing sunrise at Valley View, integrated into The Lawrence School’s routine, and explored sustainability practices at the 'Wealth out of Waste' center. A Tamil class offered a taste of the local language.
August 13th was dedicated to cultural immersion, with visits to the Thoda temple and a scenic train ride from Lovedale to Coonoor. The day concluded with a Calligraphy workshop, emphasizing art's role in cultural expression. The students further explored the natural beauty and industries of the Nilgiris on August 14th with visits to Doddapatta Peak, a Tea Factory, a Chocolate Factory, and the Botanical Garden, ending the day with a Special Dinner and Stargazing session.
On August 15th, the students proudly participated in Independence Day celebrations and a Bharatanatyam Workshop, deepening their appreciation for South Indian Classical Dance. The day ended with a trek to the Hanuman Temple, connecting them with the region’s spiritual heritage.
The penultimate day, August 16th, featured a Shopping trip to Ooty, a friendly Sports Match, and a special PS Show, celebrating the camaraderie formed during the week. The exchange concluded on August 17th with a reflective visit to a local Church and a walk by the Lake before the students departed.
20 students participated - Khyati Mehta, Jiya Jain, Aadya Deedwania, Vaanya Mehta, Saanvi Shah, Anya Bhattar, Kanishka Rathore, Kanupriya Shekhawat, Divya Parashar, Yashashvi Jodha, Ashmi Singhvi, Pulkita Ayani, Divya Chhatwani, Janhavi Bherwani, Avisha Bhansali, Dia Ayani, Aarna Hiran, Bhumi Dhoot, Aarya Mehta Dixit & Unnati Singh with their Escort Teacher Mrs Puja Mehta, whose guidance and care ensured the students’ well-being throughout the week. The exchange was a resounding success, leaving the students with cherished memories, lasting friendships, and a broader, more open-minded perspective on the world.
