Satakshi Sati, Avantika Mishra, Harianshika Shekhawat, Mayurakshi Nathawat along with their Teacher Escort, Mrs. Perminder Meena attended the Boarding School’s Association of India Student Leadership Workshop hosted by The Doon School, Dehradun from 6th & 7th May 2024. This Workshop saw the participation of more than 20 elite boarding schools. It commenced on day one with an inspiring address from the esteemed Keynote Speaker, Mr. Tajinder Luthra an IPS officer. One of his poignant statements was “If you’re looking into the screen more than you look into the eyes of your friends and family then there’s a problem”.
Following an enlightening session by Mr. Vineet Panchhi a poet, filmmaker, Voice Actor and a Communication Consultant, participants grasped the essence of his words: "The color of the balloon does not matter; it's the helium gas within that propels it skyward." Dr. Sanjeev Chopra a retired IAS officer and also the former Director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, unveiled a profound truth that the success of leadership in any domain, be it language, politics, or education, hinges upon the art of listening to people. Ms. Stuti Kuthiala the Deputy Head at The Doon School, delved into dynamic leadership through engaging activities, discovering the essence of 'armored' and 'daring' leadership. Day 2 commenced with Session 4, led by Ms. Sangeeta Kain, the Principal, Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun. She emphasized that true leadership encompasses guiding, demonstrating, and actively participating in the journey forward. In Session 5, Mr. Philip Burrett, a teacher for 44 years, served as Deputy Headmaster, The Doon School, delved into the various types of leadership, including Commanding, Democratic, Laissez-Faire, and Servant leadership, which views leadership as an opportunity to serve others.
Mr. Kamal Ahuja, the Deputy Headmaster of the Doon School, delved into the essential elements of leadership encapsulated in Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Coordinating, Reporting, and Budgeting. Mr. Vinay Pandey, facilitated a reflection period where he tasked students with exercises that challenged their problem-solving abilities, presenting three scenarios for them to address as student leaders. These exercises provided invaluable insights into honing problem-solving skills. Subsequently, the Closing Ceremony commenced, presided over by the Principal of The Doon School, Dr Jagpreet Singh. His emotional, and motivating speech served as the perfect conclusion to the event, leaving everyone feeling empowered and ready to apply their learnings in their respective endeavors.
