“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Aptly said by Margaret Mead.
Under the aegis of AFS India, a team of 20 students attended a
Virtual Effect+ Workshop on the Zoom platform on 23rd and 25th, January 2021. The trainer for the workshop was Ms Sarita Badhwar. The workshop mainly targeted on Sustainable Development Goals (set by UN member states) and reflected that no one is born as a change-maker, its something you become when you see a problem and then dare to become a part of the solution.
In the first session on 23rd January, the trainer gave a brief of all the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and what are the challenges and problems that prevail regarding them. Then there was a Quiz on Kahoot for the same. Further, the students were divided into separate breakout rooms to pick one goal, discuss and share views on it and prepare a PPT reflecting their perspectives.
The second session on 25th January started with a video of Afroz Shah exhibiting that how small changes can bring big changes. Each group had to present their PPT and give some practical suggestions to be practised in daily routine to eradicate problems regarding the SDG. Later on, discussion took place about the qualities of a change maker and how as a student they can involve in the change-making process.
