SPIC MACAY PERFORMANCE BY PT. RAJENDRA PRASANNA JI


The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world.

 To promote an awareness of our rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the youth of this country ‘the young students’ a Spic Macay performance was organised. So that the students can also focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and can develop an awareness of deeper and subtler values.

Students of class VII, VIII and IX witnessed a mesmerizing performance by Pt. Rajendra Prasanna, Flute and Shehnai maestro from ‘Banaras Gharana’. He is the proud recipient of Uttar Pradesh ‘Sangeet Natak Academy Award’, Grammy Award certificate among many other awards. He has been a top-grade artist with All India Radio and even worked with National school of Drama. Pt. Prasanna was accompanied by renowned tabla player Abhishek Mishra of ‘Benaras Gharana’ from a celebrated family of Sangeet Nayak Pt. Daragahi Mishra followed by Shri Ritesh Prasanna. The programme commenced with the formal welcome address. The honoured guests enthralled the audience by their aesthetic approach and powerful renditions combined with a unique blend of fluency and melody. The musical extravaganza ushered in the emotion of tranquillity and enchanted the audience throughout. It truly conveyed ‘Music speaks a thousand languages’ as the students thoroughly enjoyed the mesmerizing recital. The programme came to a an end with a formal vote of thanks. Mementoes were presented to the guests as a token of appreciation from RKK family.
