With a great deal of excitement and vigor, the delegation of RKK departed to participate in the
28th JTM Gibson Memorial Debates and Quiz 2023. They reached the lush green campus of
Mayo College on the 29th of September. The quizzers had their initial knockout round that day itself, and even though they could not make it to the final round, they left an indelible mark and gave tough competition to the other participating teams. They all witnessed the Finals of the Quiz in the evening which was hosted by Quizmaster Ajay Poonia. The event was extremely enthralling and kept them on the edge of their seats the entire time.
The trophy was lifted by Sunbeam School Lahartara. They also took a tour of the entire campus and were left awe struck by its beauty. Day 2 commenced with the Three mandatory preliminary rounds that each school had to contest. Team RKK went two for three defeating Gems Modern School Dubai and Mahatani Gayatri Devi School Jaipur. The RKK team made it to the top 4 teams out of the total 16 and broke into the Quarter finals against the host school, Mayo College and fought their hardest. We were not able to make it to the semi-finals, but definitely put up our best fight and our stance was appreciated. This was followed by the Director's dinner at his residence, and the day conluded as they all retired to bed in their hotel. The following day, enchanting polo matches were witnessed
and were left wonderstruck with the performances of trick riding. The semis and mega finals followed, where the host school Mayo college lifted the trophy which was there after given to the Runners up team, Mayoor School Ajmer. The Closing Ceremony was graced by Ms. Advaita Kala, a renowned author and columnist. Ma'am's words were truly enriching.
Following takeaways from the competition will take the future debaters to a long way :A good debater is a good listener. Observation and adaptation are one of the key ingredients to an engaging Debate, especially in The Asian Parliamentary format .
Mechanizing and elucidating your arguments with proper characterization is crucial. It is necessary for you to paint the picture of your side of the world to the adjudicators to showcase why your stance is the one to support.
Analyzing and weighing the arguments aptly is crucial for the verdict, and must be done in a way so as to glorify our own arguments, and to prove the detrimental impacts of their matrix.
