A SESSION BY DR. SHIV SINGH RATHORE ON GEO-TOURISM


On 14-08-2023, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls' Public School hosted Dr. Shiv Singh Rathore, the Former Chairman of RPSC, for an enlightening session on the topic of Geo-tourism. The session aimed to shed light on the concept of Geo-tourism, the significance of Geo Parks, the need for Geo Parks in India, potential Geo Heritage sites in Jodhpur, and related subjects.

The session commenced with an introduction of the guest speaker. Dr. Rathore began by explaining Geo-tourism and emphasized the importance of Geo Parks as protected areas that conserve geological heritage while promoting education and sustainable tourism. He highlighted their role in preserving geological heritage, promoting scientific understanding, and fostering local community involvement. He discussed the various types of Geo Parks and their positive impacts on both tourism and conservation. The speaker underscored the need for Geo Parks in India due to its rich geological diversity and cultural heritage. He emphasized that Geo Parks could help in conservation efforts, raising awareness about geological significance, and boosting local economies through responsible tourism. Geo Parks serve as living laboratories for studying Earth's history, showcasing geological phenomena, and advancing scientific research. Dr. Rathore discussed the geological features of Jodhpur that make it a potential hub for Geo Parks. He pointed out specific sites that could be considered for Geo Park designation, underlining their geological, cultural, and historical importance.

Dr. Shiv Singh Rathore's session on Geo-tourism left an indelible mark on the students and faculty of Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls' Public School. His expertise, combined with the enthusiasm of the students and faculty, made the session an informative and inspiring experience.
