DARI CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION WORKSHOP

The Heritage Education and Communication Service (HECS) division of India organised a workshop for the young generation to learn and develop interest in cultural and traditional diversity of our state.

The INTACH Jodhpur Chapter organised a ‘Dari Conservation and Restoration Workshop’ on 9th October 2021 for an hour in which the Keynote Speaker was Mr Roopraj ji, who has acquired the skills of dari making from his grandfather and now he has converted his passion so much that his handmade daris are even sold abroad. Dari is one of those items, which is having great significance since time immemorial. The students learnt that - Dari is made in flat looms by the process of interlocking weaving. It is eco friendly and durable. The process of making dari takes a lot of time but the result is definitely a treat to the eyes, so intricately made with vibrant colours. In the session Roopraj ji talked about how we need to take care as well as promote our cultural heritage because nowadays we are going more towards ready made and modern culture at the same time forgetting our own culture.

12 RKKians with their Teacher Incharge Mr Yatheesh Kasaragod - Himani Jethwani, Gauri Baxi, Mitali Dhoot, Hemangini Bhati, Nishita Jain, Kumkum Chauhan, Parul Birla, Aditi Chandak,  Preksha Purohit, Bhavya, Aastha Vyas and Manasvi Salecha participated enthusiastically and definitely learnt a lot about dari making.
