Many middle school students across India have not got the opportunity to learn about the concept of MUNs and MUN procedures, owing to the ongoing pandemic & constrained online academic schedules resulting from the situation. In order to ensure that middle school students do not miss out on learning about MUNs and participating in them, SkillSphere Education came up with the idea of Mini MUNs during this summer on
2nd and 4th June 2021.Mini MUNs have a simple objective - teaching students the basics of MUN procedure and associated skill set development and thereafter exposing them to a compressed version of an online MUN.
With a simple format, this Mini MUN consisted of 2 sessionsSession 1 - Wednesday, 2nd June, 2021 - Introduction to MUNs and MUN Procedure- (5:30 pm - 7:30 pm) - 2 hours
During this session, students were oriented about the United Nations, basic UNA/USA procedure, and the skill oriented approach best suited for MUNs. They were also given an explanation about the MUN agenda for the Mini MUN simulation. Countries were allotted thereafter too.
Session 2 - Friday, 4th June, 2021 - Mini MUN Simulation
(10:30 pm - 1:00 pm) - 2.5 hours
Students participated in a mini simulation of an actual MUN where they represented countries and discussed an agenda of global importance. This educational simulation gave a platform to the students to learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. It taught to the delegates- speaking, debating and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.
