RKK’S UPCYCLOTHON (INSPIRED BY ROUND SQUARE)

"Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world." When inspiration becomes an idea and an idea transforms into action, then we certainly see a change. A vision like this was conceived a month ago. To inspire young people to become change-makers of tomorrow, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School, Jodhpur, organized an Online Competition, Upcyclothon: Regard Before you Discard.  We were delightfully overwhelmed with the response that was received from all the esteemed Round Square Member Schools to encourage sustainable practices among the students. Videos that we received were an amalgamation of creative, imaginative and innovative skills of students. Each and every video showcased the best possible way to upcycle the waste materials adhering to the three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Repurpose. All the amazing presentations by students were judged on the following criteria:- Utility of the product, Optimum Use of Waste Materials, Visual Appeal of the Product, Creativity, Presentation and Eco-Friendly nature. Students used a variety of waste materials ranging from old coconut shells, waste cardboard, coloured chart paper, old newspapers, used bottles, plastic spoons and egg trays. Imaginations ran wild as the students sent videos showing items such as sustainable fish toy, nature friendly jewellery, sustainable lampshade, musical wall, sustainable chandelier,   pencil stands from used cans, a bird feeder from cardboard, dolls from plastic spoons, vacuum cleaner from plastic bottle, robot from cardboard waste etc. After a lot of brainstorming among our judges, decisions were made. The results were declared on 27th April 2022. Certificates of Appreciation were given to all the participants whereas some selected students were given Certificates of Excellence for grades 3-5 and grades 6-8.  The commendable efforts of the students to make this event a grand success were appreciated. The event has given long lasting memories to all the participants and we hope that the initiative doesn’t fade away with the end of this competition. May all the participants be the light bearers of a sustainable future where they think and act before considering something as trash and help the environment by upcycling it in the best possible way.
