TURNCOAT DEBATE AT PINEGROVE SCHOOL, SOLAN

To enrich the minds with the art of debating, a team of 2 debaters and one researcher Mansi Agarwal, Kaveena Maheshwari, Ira Ali from the Debating Society and Teacher Escort Mrs Kalyani Banerjee represented RKK in “2nd Mohinder Memorial Bilingual Turncoat Debate” organized by Pinegrove School, Solan from 8th to 10th September 2017.

13 eminent schools participated from all over the country. The topics for the Preliminary Round were : ‘The United Nations is a toothless lion’ and ‘Advertisements should be banned as they create artificial needs’. The topic for the final round included – ‘Refuge to Refugees encourages Terrorism’.

The speakers had to speak on the topic for proposition as well as opposition in both the languages Hindi & English for 2 and a half minutes followed by a conclusive rebuttal. The format of Debate chosen for this competition has been inspired from Harvard Debating Society. The motive behind the Bilingual Turncoat Debate was to get a command over both the languages Hindi and English and a better understanding. This debate was indeed a brilliant learning experience which enhanced the confidence level of the team and broadened their vision. The stay at Pinegrove School was extremely memorable.
