DALY COLLEGE, INDORE (ALL INDIA INTER SCHOOL DEBATES AND QUIZ COMPETITION)


Be good, do good, think good”, rightly said by the Chief Guest Mr. Utpal Chatterjee in his Closing Ceremony Speech.

A team of six students - Divya Vishnoi and Jaya Sankhla participated in the Padmashree JK Kate Memorial Hindi Debate, Varalika Sharma and Ira Bishnoi in the DF Jack Memorial English Debate and Suhani Baheti and Nehal Gehlot participated in the PG Miller Memorial Quiz - 2023 organized by Daly College, Indore on 19th & 20th  April  2023.

A total of 14 schools participated : Pinegrove School Solan, Scindia Kanya Vidyalya Gwalior, Daly College Indore, The Sanskar Valley Bhopal, Mayo College Girls’ School Ajmer, Mayo College Ajmer, Mody School Laxmangarh, The Emerald Heights’ International School Indore, Sunbeam School Varuna, Sunbeam School Lahartara, The Doon School Dehradun, The Scindia School Gwalior, Welham Girls’ School Dehradun and Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School, Jodhpur.

In the preliminary round of the Hindi Debate, the motion was “Desh ki pragati keval yuvaon pe nirbhar hai”. The Hindi debaters were able to showcase their skills and as a result qualified for the quarter finals. The motion for the quarter finals was “Is sadan ka manna hai ki G20 ki aadhykshta ke madhyam se bharat naam vyavastha ka netratav karenge”.  They went against Pinegrove School Dharampur and successfully made their way into the next round. The motion for the semi finals was “Manna hai ki achha bura kuch nahi hota sab kuch paristithyon par nirbhar karta hai”.  The delegates debated against Emerald Heights International School Indore.

The English Debaters qualified the Preliminary Round and entered the Quarter Finals. In the Preliminary Round they debated in the Turncoat Modified format in which Varalika spoke FOR the motion, whereas Ira spoke AGAINST the motion. Next in the Quarter Finals, they debated against ‘The Sanskar Valley School’, Bhopal and the topic was ‘ The only way to tackle the water shortage in India is to make Rain Water Harvesting compulsory  for buildings’, and RKK girls spoke as a team FOR the motion. After qualifying the quarter finals, girls spoke AGAINST the motion on ‘Nepotism in the long run does not give any unfair advantage’. They debated with Welham Girls’ School and reached the finals and debated with the host team on the topic, ‘Developing Nations must not have the same responsibility to tackle global warming as developed nations’. They spoke against the motion. The following prizes were bagged in the All India Inter School DF Jack Memorial English Debate :
  • First Runner up Overall Individual: Varalika Sharma
  • English Debate Runner Up : RKK
  • Best Speaker, Semi-Finals: Varalika Sharma
  • First Runner Up Finals: Varalika Sharma
  • First Runner Up : Quarter Finals: Varalika Sharma


It was an enriching experience.
