SAI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, BHUVNESHWAR (THE BIG GREEN BANG)

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  ~ Margaret Mead

Environment is no one’s property to destroy; it is everyone’s responsibility to protect. Keeping this in mind SAI International School in collaboration with Rotary Club – India conducted a two-day virtual activity, The Big Green Bang based on the Round Square IDEALS of Environment Stewardship on  28th & 30th October 2021. The event invited Climate Action Teams from Round Square Schools and Interact Clubs over Six countries namely India, Namibia, Kenya, South Korea, Pakistan and Philippines.

The event commenced on October 28, 2021 wherein SAI International School and Rotary Club - India hosted the schools over a virtual platform. A detailed presentation titled “Seed Ball Dispersion” was made with an aim to preserve and conserve Mother Earth. The entire activity revolved around Making and Launching of Seed Balls. It was a unique idea which reinstated the fact that small efforts from individuals can bring a big change towards saving our environment.

The volunteers from SAI International School gave a live demonstration of making Seed Balls. This programme was initiated by Rotary Club as Seed Ball Project. The Climate action Teams were required to follow the instructions and prepare similar Seed Balls using seeds of evergreen plants.

The Climate Action Teams were then required to launch the Seed Balls on October 30, 2021 in and around their respective areas. They were also supposed to record a video and upload the same on a Google Form. An exhaustive video was created by compiling all the individual videos and was uploaded on YouTube on November 6, 2021.

The best part of this activity was that the Seed Balls were extremely easy to make, cost effective and fun to throw. The success rate of this activity is 40% which means that if 1 lakh seed balls are thrown, it will result in 40,000 new trees. It is infact the cheapest and the fastest way to grow trees.
