WELHAM BOYS’ SCHOOL, DEHRADUN (WELMUN’21)


A Virtual Model United Nations Conference was conducted on 12th and 13th August 2021 hosted by Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun Uttarakhand.

It was the seventeenth edition of this Model United Nations Conference. “NORMALIS NOVUM”. It consisted of the following Committees :

·        The Lok Sabha

·        United nations General Assembly (DISEC)

·        International Press Corps (IPC)

·        United Nations Human Right Council (UNHRC)

·        United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

·        Soviet Special Advisory Committee (JCC-1)

·        The President’s Special Committee (JCC 2)

All the committees had captivating agendas that led to enhanced debates and discussions

The participants were :

  • Sanskriti Soni  for UNSC
  • Sumriddhi Sharma for UNGA
  • Lauren for UNHRC
  • Khushboo Vyas for Lok Sabha
  • Rishita Bhansali for JCC- 1
  • Bhoomi Rathi for JCC-2
  • Diksha Rajpurohit for IPC


The Lok Sabha’s Agenda :

  • The deterioration of political climate in India with special emphasis on Free Speech and Federalism
  • Second wave of COVID - 19
  • United Nations UNGA-1: Disarmament and International Security Committee agenda
  • The magnitude of the global crisis, that arose due to the pandemic, forced countries to adopt multilateral cooperation.


The Agenda discussed was of immense significance to the present day and deals with a danger of vast consequences.

United Nations Human Rights Council Agenda :

(i) The plight of Uighur Muslims in the Xinjiang region of China

(ii) Addressing Child Labour 

United Nations Security Council agenda

The ongoing situation in the Crimean Peninsula, an issue that has persisted throughout the past decade, and simultaneously one that has grown increasingly relevant today.

Soviet Special Advisory Committee (JCC-1) Agenda :

The very existence of the world threatened by our unstable opponents, who entrust the key to their nuclear arsenal to a different ringmaster every four years. And to draft certain safeguards that will ensure lasting peace, despite the West’s best efforts.

The President's Special Committee on Containing Communism (JCC-2) Agenda.

To protect the liberty of those fighting against subjugation by subversive agents of communism. This is an era of apprehension and uncertainty as communism makes its way across the globe and the USSR tries to project its foul ideals on the free people of other countries.

International Press Corps Agenda  :

Delegates’ job was to cover their committees from as much of an objective viewpoint as possible, while always maintaining the highest possible standards of journalistic integrity.

The girls of Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls' Public School showed active and dedicated participation and stood for their stances.

Diksha Rajpurohit of X-B won a Verbal Mention in the IPC committee for UNSC.

The MUN believes coming up with solutions that are acceptable to a majority of the representatives also inculcates skills of negotiation, conflict resolution, and cooperation and mastering analytical skills. It was truthfully an astounding experience and it came with a lot of fruitfulness. Each participant had something to take back from it and were able to view things from a wider perspective.
