THE ATHENIAN SCHOOL, CALIFORNIA (RS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE)

Our similarities bring us to a common ground; our differences allow us to be fascinated by each other. The topic of the conference “Finding Common Ground” hosted by the Anthenian School, California on 29th May 2021 comprised RKK’s participants - Divya Ladha, Navya Kothari, Khushboo Vyas, Bhumika Ayani, Nehal Gehlot and Shreya Garg in which other participating schools were Dhirubai Ambani School, SAI International School, Punjab Public School, and schools from Peru, America and many more.

The conference started with an overview of the topic and reports by some schools after which the student delegates were divided into breakout rooms were they had ice breaking session and  got to know each other. The conference became more interesting with the inspiring thoughts of the first Keynote Speaker, Mr.Kalyan Balavan who talked about living the learning, told  the participants about democracy in action which was started by students who worked with the community to bring change. He  also talked about cultural competence- which worked towards building community and bringing self awareness. The Keynote Speaker inspired   the audience a lot and motivated them   to work for the betterment of the society as youth is the country’s power. To dig more into this topic  the student delegates were  again divided into our barazza groups where they shared their views and discussed how one can hold space for dialogue and also speak out against oppression. After this healthy discussion the host school enlightened everyone about how to have difficult conversation and also talked about listening is understanding.

In the breakout rooms the student delegates rejuvenated by playing games and sharing views on different food combinations which was fun frolic, at the end all the participants exchanged their social media handles and proceeded to the main meeting. At the end of the conference was a fun game, Kahoot which everyone enjoyed a lot. With lot of laughter and new experience the conference came to an end.
