Theater has always been a way to express our feelings whether happy or sad and as we are trapped in our houses we are unable to put on dramatic facades that help us escape reality show at a time. When the aspiring theatre artists of RKK -
Hemangini Bhati, Kanishka Godara and Hira Khan were chosen to perform an ‘Absurd Theatre Play’ in an exhibition on 7th of September conducted by Pathways World School, Aravali, they put in all their hearts into preparing the best presentation they could have sitting at home away from their beloved stage.
Absurd theatre was a new challenge for them. Learning to portray characters with such distinct yet hidden personalities was a little tough but with the guidance of our theatre teacher, Dr. Neetu Parihar ma’am, they turned the script into a reality.
The delegation had chosen the play
‘The Birthday Party’ by ‘Harold Pinter’. In this play, there always seems to be an aura of uncertainty looming over even the most mundane conversations and scenes. Stanley seems to be in a bubble of insecurity, which most people in today’s world would also correspond with due to all the pressure society has put on everyone. Harold Pinter has portrayed different personalities of different personas in the play meticulously, one would believe that might even oxymoronic personalities of just one person or the masks we wear everyday to conceal the truth of our true selves from the horrors of societies.
The students had the pressure of putting on such a perplexing play in a setting where the audience was replaced with a camera. So after 2 weeks of rehearsing, They finally had a presentation to be proud of. All the other participating schools put on amazing enactments of absurd plays. Living in such absurd times made everyone realize the need of absurd theater not only in life where emotions run wild and free. It is overwhelming that the 3 RKKians managed to put together a play in the most absurd way.
