Cocurricular - Activities during Lockdown

ONLINE MUSIC COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY SCINDIA KANYA VIDYALAYA

Socrates, a great philosopher once said that –

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. The scenario across the world has changed. The change is not good, as we know but we have to change for the good. Everything is shut down even our schools, but the window of our belief is always open. We all have the power to face anything and this power stays on the belief, we have in ourselves and our teachers have in us. Hard times are not supposed to paralyze us, they are supposed to help us and discover us, who we are.

“I go to the hills when my heart is lonely. I know, I will hear what I have heard before. My heart will be blessed with the sound of music and I will sing again  once more”.

SOUND OF MUSIC

Music is an abstract art that can’t be described by words. The material of music is sound and silence.

“Music heals, when all the remedies of the world fail.”

Taking this into consideration, the students of RKK proudly participated in the event of Music Competition – No Instrument Challenge, organized by Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior under the theme – ‘COVID-19 Warriors’ anthem. This was not only a competition, but was more of a teaching, that we all can work alone, but we succeed only when we are together. This competition was like a fresh cold breeze during these hard times that rejuvenated and filled us with positivity and enthusiasm. It gave us all a sense of purpose and helped us in doing our bit for the society by creating awareness and also helped in uplifting our spirits.

Recording videos, correcting ourselves and trying our best to give our best, became a part of daily routine for few days. The days of performing the activity were few but the cherry-merry memories of ‘SING FROM HOME’ are eternal. The availability of instrument was also a hurdle, but nothing could kibosh what we embarked, as we used different sound producing resources available at our homes. We used table tops and empty card board boxes to produce sound of bass drum, hitting an empty plastic bottle on a surface to produce the sound of snare drum, using plastic bottle or jar filled with grains as shaker and water bowl used as jaltarang.

It was not a cinch as it may seem to be. The singers were performing a cappella. The instrumentalists were executing their tasks without singers. With the combined effort of all, we succeeded in self composing the lyrics and music of both the songs. All the videos clips were mixed in a synchronized manner into a final video, ready to be sent for the competition.  Both  RKK’s compositions reflected on the pandemic and urged everyone not to lose hope and also to look towards a promising future. This gave us an opportunity to salute our Covid-19 Warriors. Finally, the results were declared and the hard work put in by the RKKians was evident in the form of Certificates of Commendation for both the videos.

The Participants were Michelle Crispin Johnny, Harshita Haryal, Nehal Gehlot, Sanjiti Gill, Nikita Vijayan, Soumya Joshi, Suhani Baheti, Honey Singhvi, Niharika Pamnani, Mumal Deora, Pari Jain, Cheshtha Chopra, Anubhuti Sharma and Urvee Jodha.

2 Entries were sent. Both the entries won 2nd position. RKK won Commendation Certificates of Excellence to its credit for both the videos.
